1 . INDONESIA
A 6.2M earthquake struck Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province, North West Sumatra, followed by several aftershocks. As of 5 Jul, the National Agency for Disaster Management has reported 35 deaths, and 275 injured. 4,292 houses and 83 public or community buildings are reported damaged or destroyed.

2 . INDIA
Despite continued heavy rains over the weekend, the search and rescue phase of the Uttarakhand floods and landslides are now deemed over. The government has taken a number of measures to alleviate the situation for the affected people, including food assistance packages, compensation for damages, and waiving of utility charges and fees.

3 . LAO PDR
A dengue fever outbreak in the Lao PDR, with as many as 17,500 reported cases in all provinces, has so far caused 62 reported deaths, with provinces in the far north-west, centre and far south of the country worst affected. The situation is expected to worsen as the rainy season is just starting and previous epidemics have historically peaked in Aug/Sep. The Lao government is working on a response plan.

4 . PAPUA NEW GUINEA
An earthquake of 7.2M struck on 8 Jul offshore, east of New Ireland, followed by an earthquake of 6.8M which struck West New Britain a few hours later. No immediate reports of damage, or casualties have yet been received. There were no tsunami warnings issued.

5 . JAPAN
Tropical Storm Soulik formed south of Japan on 7 Jul and is moving westwards towards Okinawa prefecture, where it is projected to pass on 12 Jul with wind speeds of up to 175 km/h (Category 2), with up to 100,000 people affected. Current indications suggest continental landfall in eastern China on 13/14 Jul.
